Million Second Reading Project Event

Read Where You Are

Today is "Read Where You Are" day.  Outside the Box Dropout Prevention supports #ReadWhereYouAre today and everyday!  Our wonderful  students are working hard to reach their goal of collectively reading one million seconds this summer!

Million Second Reading Project

This summer, the Outside the Box Dropout Prevention-Million Second Reading Project is encouraging school-aged children to pick-up a book and power-off the electronic device.

The Million Second Reading Project partners with service learning volunteers to deliver and support one-to-one learning time.  Service-learning volunteers from the University of Texas guide school-aged children through student specific reading lessons.  Students will collectively read one million seconds, Monday through Friday, at the Montopolis Recreation Center.

Summer learning is important to all students.   The Million Second Reading Project provides families a strong educational partner outside the school environment.  “Sin la ayuda de ustedes yo no sabría que hacer. Viniendo al programa mis hijos están mejorando”.  “Without your help I wouldn’t know what to do. My children are improving by coming to the program”, says Mrs. Villalobos.

The Outside the Box Dropout Prevention is a charitable, 501(c)(3) founded in 2013 for the purpose of reducing Austin's dropout rate.
